The Regulatory Landscape of eSports

Check out this article on the regulatory landscape of eSports by Prophet Exchange's very own, Director of Compliance, Joseph Caputi! The article was recently published by the Seton Hall Law School Legislative Journal.

Joe’s article delves into the history of gambling and how it has spread in society. Focusing on New Jersey’s model for gambling legislation, introduces the three criteria that regulators use for determining a game’s legality: 1) Chance 2) Prize and 3) Consideration. The article answers how these three items can be applied to eSports, given the growing demand for betting markets on these events. Legislation has recently struggled to keep pace with such a fast-paced industry, and because of this, there should be responsible gaming measures that call for operators to be more proactive in protecting customers in the absence of regulation.
